Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended

Hi everyone,
I’m facing a strange issue on my HP laptop running Windows 10. Whenever I open YouTube, the videos don’t play. The page loads, the player box appears, but the video either stays black or shows an error saying “An error occurred. Please try again later.”

I thought maybe it was my internet, but everything else works. As a test, I tried playing the same YouTube link on another site that uses YouTube’s backend to fetch audio, like [link edited] and interestingly the audio loads there without any problem.

So it looks like YouTube itself isn’t loading properly on my browser, but YouTube-based playback works elsewhere.

Has anyone else faced this after a Windows or browser update?
Any idea what could be causing YouTube to fail while other YouTube-based tools still work?
Would really appreciate any help.

Hi @yoomp3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. Which browser are you using when YouTube doesn’t work ?
  2. Have you recently updated Windows or your browser just before this issue started?
  3. Does the problem happen in all browsers on your laptop, or just one?
  4. Have you tried incognito/private mode, or disabling extensions?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Clear browser cache and cookies

  • Sometimes corrupted cached files can prevent YouTube from loading properly.

2. Update or reinstall your browser

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version. If it’s already updated, try reinstalling it.

3. Disable browser extensions

  • Ad blockers or privacy extensions can sometimes interfere with YouTube playback.

4. Check Flash/HTML5 settings

  • Most modern YouTube playback is HTML5, but ensuring your system and browser have all necessary updates for media playback can help.

5. Test another browser

  • If it works in a different browser, that suggests the issue is browser-specific rather than a system-wide problem.

6. Check Windows audio/video drivers

  • Outdated or corrupted drivers can occasionally affect video playback, even if audio works elsewhere.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead!

Best regards,

Deep_World
