HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm shocked and surprised that the HDMI port on the HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 is not compatible with HP's z27 4k display. The computer recognizes the display, but intermittently displays content on the z27. The monitor is fine since it works on multiple other computers from HP and even Apple!

Two days with tech support - no resolution!

Information from manuals

             https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-laptop-pc-15-dw3000/37506289/model/2100000420/manuals

shows it only has one HDMI v1.4b supporting up to 1920 × 1080 @ 60 Hz port. Your monitor is a 4K monitor therefore you may only get 30Hz and somehow in theory they are not compatible.

Regards.

Well, I think the 30hz vs 60hz only applies to a USB-C connection. I'm connecting via HDMI and the monitor does randomly work, but it fails again when the equipment goes into sleep mode. Windows recognizes that the display is there - yet detect display doesn't work - even with Windows 10 showing two displays in the settings. So Windows sees it, but the laptop doesn't send enough signal power to wake up the display.

If there is a compatibility issue with HP's own products you'd think that HP's tech support would know this!

It works with a Spectre 14 inch 2-in-1 with an hdmi connector on a usb hub and with various Apple computers. Just not this HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 computer. Why is HP selling junk that doesn't work properly with their own products!

They may have HDMI 2.0 port.

The rule if for all connection types, what makes do you think like that ?

I believe all vendors do the same even a car manufacture, it won't put tyres for a truck to fit for a  small sedan.

Have you tried a different monitor, just a FHD (1920 x 1080) monitor.

So I find this latest response a bit absurd because the z27 4k display does work with the laptop, but mysteriously only intermittently and when it does work it continues to work until sleep is entered. Upon waking the computer the display no longer responds. The fact the display can work for hours on end when sleep or hibernate is set to NEVER tells me it's something with the laptop. And yes I tried other displays those worked too.

I guess it just proves that people continue to peddle junk in the PC market. This is a late or latest model laptop with a relatively new Intel graphics processor so - it should work! Period. No excuses.
