Hi! @DanBan71, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand when you try to open webcam on your laptop you get a bluescreen on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Is the webcam listed in device manager?

Are you using an external webcam on your PC?

Please share the blue screen error on your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned when you try to open webcam on your laptop you get a bluescreen on your PC.

First, try updating the BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.

Link to update the BIOS.

Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Download and install YouCam software

Use the following steps to download and install CyberLink YouCam:

  1. Close all other software that you have open, especially software that uses webcam, such as Windows Live Messenger and Skype.

  2. Connect to the Internet if you are not already connected.

  3. Download and install CyberLink YouCam Software (in English) from the CyberLink website.

  4. Follow the on-screen setup instructions to complete the installation.

       NOTE:

You might receive an error that a previous version of YouCam, MediaSmart Webcam, or TouchSmart Webcam has been detected. Either select Cancel and use HP Recovery Manager to reinstall the webcam software that came with your computer, or select Yes to uninstall the other webcam software and replace it with this version of Cyberlink YouCam.

  5. In Windows, search for and open CyberLink YouCam.

  6. What happens when you open YouCam?

    • If YouCam opens and you can see an image, then you are finished. Your webcam is working.

    • If YouCam opens but you cannot see video in the main display window, restart the computer and try opening YouCam again. If the problem persists, use the troubleshooting section Video does not display in your webcam software.

If you are able to boot into your PC after trying out the steps. Try updating other drivers using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

Firstly....thank you for taking up your time attempting to assist me.

I do not know how to attach my blue screen, but the text on the top of the blue screen states the following:

'....attempting to access memory beyond the end of the allocation. This usually indicates a system driver synchronization issue'

I took a picture of it on my phone as obviously the laptop in blue screen is beyond the time to take a screen shot on the laptop itself. I will try the steps you suggested of course. HP Support assistant is no good for this problem as the laptop is out of warranty and quite old ( but up to this point really reliable)

Tried a System Restore to no effect. Updating Drivers I could find to no effect.

Also the YouCam programme you suggested costs £40.00. Not really a viable solution.

My bad! Found a trial version and installed. My apologies!

Did the Bios thing. No difference.

Did the YouCam thing. No difference (still reverted to blue screen when program tried to find onboard or exterior camera)

Is it a graphics card thing? A video thing? I added additional information re: the content of the blue screen above.

Thank you to anyone in advance. I appreciate any and all interest/assistance.

@DanBan71, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Uninstall the webcam drivers under imaging devices from device manager.

And install you cam software using HP recovery manager.

After installation completes restart your PC and try opening you cam application and check if it works.

Let me know if how it goes!

Take Care! 🙂
