Please help. Trying to use zoom for the first time and my camera and microphone are not working. I went to the hp website to find the camera software but couldn't find it. The microphone acts like it records but just gives a blip on playback.

Hi @lapus123
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
If your camera and microphone are not working in Zoom on your HP laptop, the issue is usually related to Windows privacy settings, missing/corrupted drivers, or Zoom permissions rather than missing camera software. HP does not provide separate camera software for most modern laptops—the camera uses the built-in Windows driver.
Please follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Check if the Camera Works Outside Zoom
- Press Windows + S and search for Camera.
- Open the Camera app.
- If the camera works here, the hardware is functioning and the issue is likely with Zoom settings.
- If the Camera app shows an error or a black screen, continue with the next steps.
Step 2: Allow Camera and Microphone Access
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Turn Camera access On.
- Turn Let apps access your camera On.
- Ensure Zoom is allowed.
Repeat the same steps under Microphone:
- Turn Microphone access On.
- Allow apps and desktop apps (including Zoom) to use the microphone.
Step 3: Verify the Camera in Device Manager
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras (or Imaging Devices).
- Ensure the integrated camera appears without a yellow warning icon.
- If it is disabled, right-click it and select Enable device.
- If there is a warning icon:
- Right-click the camera.
- Select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If that doesn't help, choose Uninstall device (do not check "Delete the driver software"), then restart the computer.
Step 4: Check the Microphone
- In Device Manager, expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Verify the Microphone Array is listed.
- Update or reinstall the driver if necessary.
Step 5: Run HP Support Assistant
- Open HP Support Assistant.
- Select your laptop.
- Install any available updates, especially:
- BIOS
- Audio driver
- Camera driver
- Chipset driver
Restart the computer after installing updates.
Step 6: Check Zoom Settings
- Open Zoom.
- Go to Settings > Video.
- Select the Integrated Camera.
- Go to Audio.
- Select the Microphone Array as the microphone.
- Click Test Mic and speak.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
