HP 15s-eq1000 Laptop PC (1E871AV)

Hi!

My laptop camera is not working. I do everything that shows in the Windows Update and HP Troubleshooting. Nothing resolves it...

Hi @velosama

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP laptop camera issue can often be resolved by checking the privacy switch/shutter key, verifying Windows privacy settings, and updating drivers through HP’s official tools.

Below are structured and recommended steps to follow.

1. Check Camera Privacy Controls

  • Webcam Privacy Switch: Some HP notebooks have a physical switch on the side or near the camera. Slide it to enable the webcam.
  • Webcam Shutter Key: Found on the keyboard action row. Press it (sometimes with the Fn key) to toggle the camera.
    • LED On: Camera is off.
    • LED Off: Camera is on.

2. Verify Windows Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Ensure Camera access is turned On.
  • Enable access for specific apps (e.g., HP App, Camera app).

3. Test with Camera Software

  • Open the Camera app (preinstalled in Windows).
  • If no image appears, restart the computer and test again.
  • Also test with the HP App to confirm detection.

4. Update Drivers

  • Open Device Manager > Imaging devices.
  • Right‑click your webcam → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for updates to webcam drivers, BIOS, and chipset.

5. Run HP Diagnostics

  • Restart and press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
  • Run a Component Test > Camera to confirm hardware functionality.

6. Additional Checks

  • Ensure no other software is blocking the camera.
  • If the camera is still not detected, reinstall the webcam driver via Device Manager.

You can find the official HP troubleshooting guide here:

Take care, and have an amazing day!
