Hi @lessi,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are experiencing overheating and display flickering on a brand new HP OMEN Transcend 14-Inch Gaming Laptop PC 14-Fb0000 (9F276AV) is concerning.
Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issues:
Overheating Issues
Check Ventilation: Ensure that the laptop's ventilation is not blocked. Use it on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow.
Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings.
- Select Balanced or Power saver instead of High performance.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected plan and then Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power Options window, expand Processor power management and set Maximum processor state to 90% for both On battery and Plugged in.
Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure that your BIOS and all drivers, especially the graphics driver, are up-to-date. You mentioned you already updated the drivers, but it's worth checking for any BIOS updates on the HP support site.
Use HP Command Center:
- Open the HP Command Center application.
- Go to the Thermal Profile section and select Cool or Quiet mode to reduce heat.
Clean the Laptop: Even though it's new, ensure there is no dust in the cooling vents.
Display Flickering Issues
Check Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
- Ensure the refresh rate is set correctly (usually 60Hz or higher depending on your display specifications).
Check Graphics Driver Settings:
- Open the graphics control panel (NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings).
- Ensure the settings are optimized for performance and not causing the flickering.
Disable Hardware Acceleration:
- In your web browser, go to settings and search for Hardware acceleration.
- Turn off hardware acceleration and restart the browser to see if the flickering stops.
Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows OS is fully updated as some updates might contain fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
Run Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a system test to check for any hardware issues.
