The cursor keeps trembling and I can't control it. The touchpad seems to have hardware defect with a spot looks and feels different from the rest area. If I put my finger on that spot, the cursor stops moving. But as soon as I lift up the finger, the cursor moves again. What should I do?

Hi @GraceNeedHelp,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your touchpad may have a hardware issue, especially given the different feel of the spot you mentioned. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem:
1. Check for Driver Updates
Update Touchpad Drivers: Sometimes, issues with the cursor can be caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your touchpad device (e.g., Synaptics, Elan, or HID-compliant mouse), and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
Visit HP Support: Check the HP support website for the latest drivers for your model (HP Laptop PC 14-dq2035cl). HP Laptop PC 14-dq2035cl Software and Driver Downloads
2. Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity Settings
Sometimes, adjusting the sensitivity can help stabilize the cursor:
- Go to Settings (Win + I), then select Devices > Touchpad.
- Adjust the touchpad sensitivity to Medium or Low to see if it improves the stability.
3. Disable the Touchpad Temporarily
If you're sure the issue is with the touchpad and not software-related:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Toggle Off the touchpad, and try using an external mouse to see if the issue persists.
4. Run HP Diagnostics HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
HP provides a built-in diagnostics tool that can help identify hardware issues:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 during startup to enter the HP Diagnostic menu.
- Run the Touchpad Test to check for hardware defects.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset might help recalibrate the hardware:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and remove any external devices.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn the laptop back on.
