Hi @Nikhil369

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing cursor lag when your device is plugged in for charging. This is a relatively common issue, especially on older devices, and can be caused by several factors. Let me guide you through some potential solutions and troubleshooting steps:

1. Power Settings

Many devices, especially laptops, have power settings that adjust the performance when the device is plugged in versus running on battery. The power plan might be set to limit the performance while charging to prevent overheating and save energy.

  • Solution: Adjust the power settings to optimize performance.
    • Windows:
      • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
      • Check if you have a Power Saver plan selected. If so, switch to Balanced or High Performance.
      • Click on Change plan settings next to your selected plan, then click Change advanced power settings.
      • Under Processor power management, make sure the settings are not limiting performance when plugged in.
    • Mac:
      • Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver.
      • Adjust settings to prevent the computer from limiting performance.

2. Battery or Charging Issues

Since you mentioned your device is old, the battery or charging system could be degraded, which might cause the system to throttle performance while charging to prevent overheating or overloading the power system.

  • Solution: If the battery is degraded or old, try running your device with the charger unplugged to see if it resolves the issue. If the battery is no longer effective, replacing the battery could improve overall performance.
    • If the laptop uses a removable battery, consider replacing it with a new one.
    • If the battery is non-removable, consult your device manufacturer for advice or service options.

3. Driver and Software Updates

Sometimes, outdated drivers (particularly graphics and power management drivers) can cause lag when the device is plugged in. Outdated drivers can cause poor performance, especially when your computer switches to a different power mode.

  • Solution: Update your device drivers:
    • On Windows, open Device Manager (right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager).
    • Expand the Display adapters section, right-click your graphics driver, and select Update driver.
    • Also, check for any power management driver updates under Batteries.
    • On Mac, go to System Preferences > Software Update and make sure you're running the latest macOS version.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
