Spectre 360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have a brand new Spectre 360 notebook. I connected an external monitor to it and it loaded all my old apps from my old computer onto the new computer. I had all my icons on my desktop. Then I thought I'd increase the display size to make it a bit larger. In doing so, my desktop icons disappeared. I can only find one icon at the very top of the computer. I've been through all the suggestions the Virtual Assistant suggested, and nothing works. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks!

@JRDEMR Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the desktop icons disappeared.

Please perform the below steps and check.

Step 1. Enabling the Desktop Icons Visibility

  • Click the "Start" menu and Search for "Settings".
  • Inside Settings, click on "Personalization". From the next window, select the "Themes" tab from the left pane.
  • Click on "Desktop icon settings" to open the settings to enable the Desktop icons visibility.
  • Select the icons you want to show on the desktop and click on "Apply" and "OK" buttons afterward.

Step 2. Show All Windows Desktop Icons

  • On the desktop, right-click your mouse and select "view".
  • Inside the View tab, check for the "Show desktop icons" at the bottom. In your case, it might be unmarked. So, mark it as checked by clicking on it.
  • Then, you will get your missing icons back at once.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've already tried them and the desktop icons are still missing, although they are listed on my taskbar. I never had this problem with my old computer. The problem is on my new Spectre laptop. Apparently, other people are having the same issue. Not sure if this is a Windows 10 glitch or a Spectre problem.

@JRDEMR

I understand your concerns.

Please try creating a new user account on your computer.

Go to http://hp.care/2dWJKgW  and follow the steps to create a new user account.

If the issue still persists, please perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Have a nice day!!
