Hi @vahnabe83 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your display showing double words (or a "ghosting" effect) on your HP Laptop PC 14-d2000 (2D126AV) running Windows 11 can result from several issues, including display settings, driver problems, or hardware malfunctions.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1.    Turn off the Unit.

2.    Disconnect the AC adapter.

3.    Remove any discs from the disc drive.

4.    Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

5.    Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

6.    Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

7.    Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

Step 2

Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit

Step3

The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice  and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit

Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
 Step 1: Check Display Resolution

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  2. Scroll down to Display resolution.
  3. Ensure the resolution is set to the recommended setting.
  4. Check if the issue persists.

Step 2: Update Display Drivers

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click your display driver (e.g., Intel UHD Graphics) and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Restart the laptop after the update.

Step 3: Roll Back Display Driver

If the problem started after a driver update:

  1. Go to Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click the display driver and select Properties.
  4. Navigate to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver (if available).

Step 4: Check Scaling Settings

  1. Open Settings > System > Display.
  2. Under Scale and layout, ensure the Scaling is set to 100% or 125%.
  3. Test if adjusting the scaling resolves the issue.

Step 5: Test External Display

  1. Connect the laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable.
  2. Check if the double words appear on the external display:
    • If the external display is clear, the issue is likely with the laptop's screen or its connection to the motherboard.
    • If the issue persists, it's likely a software or graphics card issue.

Step 6: Perform a System Diagnostics Test HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and repeatedly press F2 to access HP’s system diagnostics.
  3. Run a Display Test.
    • Note any errors or abnormalities.

Step 7: Check for Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Install any available updates.
  3. Restart the system.

Step 8: Reset Graphics Settings

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B to reset the graphics driver.
  2. The screen will flicker briefly. Check if the issue is resolved.

Step 9: Hardware Inspection

If the issue persists after trying all software fixes, the problem could be hardware-related:

  • Loose screen connections: This may require disassembling the laptop to reseat the display cable.
  • Damaged screen: The display panel might need replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
