HP Spectre x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having 2 problems with the extended display feature.  My monitor has a max resolution of 1920 x 1080 (I'm getting this from the advanced diplay settings) whereas the Spectre has 3480 x 2160. When I extend my display, the video card seems to think that the much larger monitor is much smaller than the laptop screen. This is evidenced by relative sizes of the rectangles representing the monitors in the Customize your diplay section.

1) When I drag windows over the the monitor, the font is massive unless I snap it to full screen, then it adjusts.

2) When my computer wakes up from sleep mode, all the windows open on the monitor are on laptop screen and the monitor screen is empty with just desktop background.

Thanks,

Chris

Hey there! @Yerbams, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have issues extending display from your laptop to the monitors.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your PC?

How are the monitors connected? What kind of cables have you used to connect the monitors (Video cables)?

Please provide the product number of your laptop to assist you better.

Try the steps recommended below.

You can find the scaling options by hitting the Windows key (or clicking on the Start button) and typing “scaling” into the search field. The setting you want is called “Change the size of the Apps on the screen”.
Windows 10 will open the display settings as below. If you haven't already connected your second monitor, you'll need to do that now before continuing.
Select “Extend these displays” from the dropdown menu, and tick the box to indicate which of the two is your main screen. Windows 10 also lets you virtually rearrange your desktops, so you can specify which monitor is on which side, and optionally adjust the relative heights of your displays by dragging the screen images up and down. Once you've told Windows how your screens are set up, click Apply to save changes.
By default, Windows will use the same scaling for both of your screens. If you want to increase the size of windows on your second monitor, simply return to the Display settings. Click on the screen whose scale you want to adjust, then drag the slider marked “Change the size of text, apps and other items” to the right to increase the size of windows. To save changes, just click Apply.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Hi MrRobot,

Thanks for your help.

No software or hardware changes have been made since I purchased this PC new about a month ago. I have the monitor connected via the HDMI port. I've tried this with two montiors and am experiencing the same problems.

Product Number: hp 15-ap012DX

I'm familiar with how to extend displays. I did take a look at the scalling and see something unusal there. My laptop is on 1 and monitor is on 2. Visually, the rectangle reprensenting 1 is about 3 times the size of 2. With my other computer it was the other way around.

Scaling is set at the Recommended setting of 250% for 1 and 100% for 2. I tried changing 1 to 100% but then I could not even read the text on 1.

I am attaching two photos. Notice what happens when I move a window from 1 to 2.

Thank you,

Have you tried checking with a different browser?

Try resetting browser on your PC and check if the issue persist.

Also, uninstall the graphics driver from device manager and install the latest drivers from HP support assistant.

Extended desktops is by screen resolution, not physical size.  The much higher resolution on the laptop display is logically much larger than your external monitor.  In regards to the scaling issue, since you're moving the window from monitor 1 to 2, it is still using the 250% scaling.  Not until the window is completely in monitor 2, before it resets to that scaling setting.  Drag a window in the opposite direction.  The window at 100% will be extremely small as it appears on monitor 1.  And the scaling won't reset to 250% until it's completely back on monitor 1 desktop.
