My screen flickers and goes darker when at a higher brightness. This started happening randomly and I have tried updating my graphic drivers, updating windows etc but nothing has solved this issue.

Hi @sads05,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Screen Flickering on HP Pavilion Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Update Graphics Drivers
- Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date using HP Support Assistant and Windows Update.
- Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
- Locate Display adapters, right-click the adapter, and select Update driver. Follow the prompts to search and install updated driver software.
Adjust Power Settings
- Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
- Select Change plan settings next to your chosen power plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings, expand the options and ensure that settings under Display are properly configured and not set to dim the display.
Check Display Settings
- Select the Start button, go to Settings > System > Display.
- Check that your Brightness settings are correctly adjusted.
- Disable ‘Adaptive Brightness’ if available as it might cause flickering.
Diagnose with HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows to check for any hardware errors. You can download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics if not already installed.
- In Windows, search for and open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows.
- Select Full Test to perform a comprehensive check on your system hardware components including the display.
Check for BIOS Updates
- Sometimes BIOS updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
- Visit HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads and enter your product details to check for BIOS updates.
- Follow the instructions to download and install the latest BIOS update.
Physical Connections and Display Integrity
- Ensure that the physical connections between the laptop display and motherboard are secure.
- If comfortable, you can check the display cable connections either by referring to the HP Pavilion service guide or by seeking professional help from a technician.
I hope this helps.
