Hi @festuradi,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the brightness control using the Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 keys is not working on your HP laptop, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a guide to help you.

  1. Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware or software glitches. Turn off your laptop, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

  2. Check for Updates: Ensure that your operating system and graphics drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP website or use the HP Support Assistant to download and install the latest driver updates.

  3. Adjust Brightness Settings in Power Options:

    • Right-click on the battery icon in the system tray.
    • Select "Power Options."
    • Click on "Change plan settings" next to your selected power plan.
    • Click on "Change advanced power settings."
    • Look for "Display" and expand it.
    • Under "Display," you should see an option for "Enable adaptive brightness." Set both the "On battery" and "Plugged in" options to "Off."
  4. Check for Hotkeys Software: HP laptops often come with hotkey software that manages special function keys. Ensure that you have the necessary hotkey or keyboard driver software installed. You can find this on the HP support website for your specific laptop model.

  5. BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues and improve system stability.

  6. Device Manager:

    • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
    • Locate the "Display adapters" section, right-click on your display adapter, and select "Update driver."
    • Choose to search for updated driver software automatically.
  7. Function Key Behavior: Some laptops allow you to customize the behavior of the function keys in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Check your laptop's user manual to see if there's an option to change the behavior of the function keys.

  8. System Restore: If the issue started recently, you might consider using the System Restore feature to revert your system to a previous state when the brightness controls were working.

  9. Check for Physical Issues: Ensure that there are no physical issues with the keyboard or the function keys.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
