I just simply want to turn off my display without closing the lid so I can save on battery consumption without having to close the lid which puts it into sleep/logoff mode. I just got this new from HP two days ago and see the battery is not going to last "9hrs 45min." on a full charge just browsing the web and doing offline activities with this laptop. I'm not playing videos or anything that really drains the battery. This is my first laptop, but I see that particular setting on other laptops (turn off display) and on screenshots but I cannot find it anywhere. When I go into settings>system>power and sleep>additional power settings>choose what closing the lid does, the option to "turn off the display" is missing. I contacted HP support (don't get me started omg) via chat and of course they want me to d/l a "small" remote control app so they can go into my machine and edit my registry. What? Apparently it is hidden by design (lovely) and "must" be enabled by editing the registry. Anyway, he posted where to go in there myself and of course those keys to modify are not listed. I double-checked the path and no, they are not there. They supposedly need to be added and modified. Why would they disable this? I see some tiny 3rd-party apps that supposedly do the trick (batch files, scripts (vbs anyone?) and other "programs" but jeez all I simply want to do is turn off the display without closing the lid, sleeping, logging off, locking the screen or hibernating. Help?

P.S. - Is it normal that these forum pages are slow to load? I'm on a 200/20 connection. Thanks

Hi There

Simply you can right click on the batter Icon in the notification area, then choose power options a windows will open and you need to click on change plan settings. then you will have turn off display for " on battery" you can change the time out to 1 min if you would like.

Kind Regards,

Thumbs up if solved.
