@PYRENEES1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue with your HP Pavilion 16-af0000 backlit keyboard not working after the June 1, 2025 BIOS update:

Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes BIOS updates reset certain settings.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Look for Backlit Keyboard settings and ensure it is Enabled.
  • Press F10 to save and exit.

Use the Correct Key Combination

  • On most HP laptops, the backlight is toggled using the F5 key or Fn + F5.
  • Try both combinations to see if the backlight responds.

Update or Reinstall HP System Event Utility

This utility controls special function keys including the backlight.

  • Go to the Official HP® Support
  • Enter your product: HP Pavilion 16-af0000.
  • Download and install the latest HP System Event Utility under the Software-Solutions section.

Roll Back or Reinstall BIOS (if needed)

If the issue started after a BIOS update, you can try reinstalling or rolling back the BIOS:

  • Visit the Official HP® Support
  • Follow the instructions to create a BIOS recovery USB or reinstall the previous version if available.

Perform a Hard Reset

This can help reset hardware connections:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
