Hi @19630,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the keyboard backlight turn off after a few seconds of inactivity, or only when the laptop goes to sleep?
  • Are you currently using Windows 10 or Windows 11?
  • Have you checked whether the Fn + keyboard backlight key (usually F4 or F5) cycles through brightness levels or timeout behavior?

Things you can try:

1. Check BIOS keyboard backlight settings

On many HP laptops, backlight behavior is controlled at the BIOS level.

  1. Restart the laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS
  2. Look for:
    • Keyboard Backlight Timeout
    • Advanced → Built-in Device Options
  3. If available, set the timeout to Never or the maximum option
  4. Save changes and exit

Note: Some Pavilion Aero models do not offer a “Always On” option — only time-based settings.

2. Use HP System Event Utility / Hotkey Support

Make sure the HP keyboard services are properly installed:

  • Download and install HP System Event Utility from HP Support for your model
  • Restart the system
  • Test the backlight behavior again

Missing or outdated utilities can cause the backlight to reset.

3. Check Windows power & brightness behavior

While Windows doesn’t directly control keyboard backlights, power modes can influence HP firmware behavior.

  • Set Power mode to Balanced or Best performance
  • Test both plugged in and on battery

Some HP laptops reduce backlight timeouts aggressively on battery to save power.

I hope this helps.
