Hi!
I own an HP Envy 15 j170np and the screen is completely black although the laptop works fine if i connect it to an external screen.
I was able to narrow down the problem to a probable damaged inverter/led backlight but i'm not sure wich one is the correct for this laptop model, can u help me?
Thanks in advance!

Hi João126,
Unfortunately, I believe that is a complicated process.
The cables for HD and FHD are physically different.
I'm open to any more questions but please accept as solution if I provided you with the answers.

Hi João126,
I'm not sure about determining the issue but I can definitely help you in finding the display assembly.
I did find this in your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide:
I believe yours is the fourth option with HP Spare Part number 720551-001. You could use that in the HP Spare Parts Store or find it from resellers.
You can find replacement procedures from pages 54-62 on the Maintenance and Service Guide I posted above.
If the display assembly wasn't exactly what you were looking for, look through pages 54-62 and you'll see other part numbers. For example, the part number for the display panel cable is 720536-001.
Hope this answers your question,

Thank you for ur answer! I already read the maintenance and service guide but i didnt found the specific part i was looking for wich is the led backlight only. I was only able to find the screen with all the screen parts. I was hoping to find the led backlight so i could replace it

Hi João126,
I believe the backlight is in the screen and is hard to replace. Most laptops these days require users to replace the entire screen in order to replace the backlight. It seems that this is the case for you considering that the Maintenance and Service Guide doesn't list anything for the backlight.
Furthermore, LED displays don't have an inverter.
I'd say your only choice is to replace the entire display.
Clarification from an HP Expert may help.
Hope this helps,
