have been using a monitor along with this laptop for quite some time now, went to bed, woke up and it stopped working. I have already tried to make sure it is not my monitor or HDMI cables problem and thats not the problem for sure. The HDMI port looks to be perfectly fine.

Hi @Spencer455,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Victus 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop was working fine with the second monitor and suddenly stopped detecting it, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and choose Display settings.
- Scroll down to Multiple displays and click Detect to see if the laptop recognizes the second monitor.
- Ensure the Display mode is set to either Duplicate or Extend.
2. Reinstall or Update Graphics Drivers:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click your graphics card (either NVIDIA/AMD or Intel), and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If the issue persists, try uninstalling the driver and restarting your laptop. The drivers should reinstall automatically.
3. Check NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel Settings:
- If you're using an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card, open the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Software.
- Look for the Display or Multiple Displays section and ensure that the external monitor is detected.
4. Test with Different HDMI Cable/Port:
Even though you've ruled out the HDMI cable and monitor, try using another HDMI port on the monitor (if available) or a different monitor altogether to ensure the port on the laptop is functioning correctly.
5. Power Cycle Your Devices:
- Turn off both the laptop and the monitor.
- Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends.
- Power on the laptop first, and once it’s booted, plug the HDMI cable back into the monitor and laptop.
- Power on the monitor and check if it's detected.
6. Check for Windows Updates:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security, and check for any pending updates, especially related to display or drivers.
- If there are updates, install them and restart your laptop.
7. Use a Different Display Output (if available):
- If your laptop has another display output (like USB-C or DisplayPort), try connecting your monitor through that port to test if the HDMI port itself is causing the issue.
8. BIOS Update:
- Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop. Sometimes, HDMI ports may have issues due to outdated BIOS firmware.
- Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop model to check for any available updates.
Refer to this document: Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 series User manual
HP PCs - Connecting a monitor, projector, or TV (Windows)
HP PCs - Using two or more monitors with one computer (Windows 11, 10)
HP PCs - Connecting to a wireless monitor or smart TV (Windows 11, 10)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
