I have an LG 32" HDMI monitor and want to add a second monitor (TBD) through a USB port. The displays would have different

content on each monitor. i would prefer to use some device that also provides USB ports

So to clarify are you saying connect monitor 1 to the display port. Connect monitor 2 to laptop using USB - C to HDMII cable? The cable should connect to the super speed USB port

@HABIII

Its specs  https://support.hp.com/lv-en/document/c07993830

You can connect it  to

M1. HDMI direct

M2. USB-C ro USB-C dieact or USB-C ro DP. USB-C to HDMI may not work.

Its  SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) port is a good candidate for an HP USB-C G5 dock which allow you to connect up to 3 external monitors.
