Hi have a lenovo lap top G50-80 windows 10, version 22H2. This lenovo laptop is non-problematical generally. the lapt top has only one VGA port and one HDMI port. it is fully up to date and was working fine with the monitors. Have 2 HP monitors M22f monitors (21.5cm). the VGA on monitor 1, and HDMI on monitor 2. lately it started flickering with a black screen coming on intermittently. Now monitor 2 is failing me totally. The VGA monitor 1 extends from the lap top immediately. the HDMI moved from flickering to failing to EXTEND the HDMI monitor 2 resulting in a black screen. i have swapped both monitors and cables: the VGA always connects indicating to me that this is some form of HDMI issue. the reason is unknown, also I cannot use both monitors purchased to make work more speedy.
Please note that i have also checked ALL the following in avail as potential solutions from the web:
1. lenovo laptop hardware scan - finds no fault with the lenovo
2. lenovo graphics drivers updated
3. intel updated at intel site.
4. hard re-set to discharge the laptop.
5. swapped monitors and cables. the VGA works on both. the HDMI works on neither.
6. windows changed the power and sleep to NEVER.
7. In laptop control panel, device manager, the two monitor drives are listed as two folders generic PnP monitor. updated these.
8. downloaded HP display centre app: under input tab the source shows VGA button switched on, but the HDMI will NOT switch on. would seem logical for those to both be switched on. a note below has a button called "enable auto switch". this is on. but has no effect on the HDMI monitor which is still black. it is not possible here to select both the VGA and the HDMI bottons. VGA monitor works but not HDMI monitor 2.
As mentioned previously the monitors were both working previously.
am not an IT professional so the time taken to do this has been phenomenal and lost to work. noted that others are suffering with the same issue on other HP monitors.
please please please come to the rescue. HELP!

Hi @josephine100 ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that you're experiencing difficulties with your dual monitor setup, specifically with the HDMI connection. Let's troubleshoot further to try and identify the issue:
Check HDMI Cable and Connection:
- Make sure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the monitor.
- Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out a cable issue.
Windows Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
- Scroll down to the "Multiple displays" section.
- Ensure that "Extend these displays" is selected for the HDMI-connected monitor.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Confirm that both your Intel graphics driver and your dedicated GPU (if you have one) drivers are up to date. Sometimes, using the manufacturer's drivers is better than relying on Windows updates.
Device Manager:
- Open the Device Manager and expand the "Display adapters" section.
- Right-click on both display adapters (Intel and any dedicated GPU) and select "Update driver."
BIOS/UEFI Update:
- Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the Lenovo support website. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.
Power Settings:
- Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options."
- Select the power plan you're using and click on "Change plan settings."
- Click on "Change advanced power settings" and make sure that "Turn off the display" and "Put the computer to sleep" are set to values that won't interrupt your work.
Try Another HDMI Port:
- If your laptop has another HDMI port, try using it to connect the second monitor.
Check Monitor Input Source:
- On the HP monitor with the HDMI connection issue, use the monitor's on-screen menu to check if the input source is set to HDMI.
Monitor Firmware Update:
- Check the HP support website for any firmware updates for your monitor.
Roll Back Graphics Driver:
- If you recently updated your graphics driver, consider rolling back to a previous version to see if that resolves the issue.
- Windows Update:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully updated by checking for Windows updates.
- System Restore:
- If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point where the dual monitor setup was working correctly.
- Try a Different HDMI Port on the Monitor:
- If your monitor has multiple HDMI ports, try using a different port.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
