Screen just stopped working one day, external displays work, the touchscreen works. Have updated graphics card drivers. From the looks of it there isnt any major damage to the motherboard.

If your HP laptop's screen is black but it works with an external monitor, it indicates an issue with the laptop's display or the connection to it. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
Check the Display Settings:
- While connected to the external monitor, go to Display Settings.
- Ensure the internal screen is detected and set as the primary display.
Toggle Display Modes:
- Press Windows Key + P to open the Project menu.
- Cycle through the different display modes (PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only) to see if the internal display comes back on.
Check the Brightness Settings:
- Sometimes the brightness might be set to the lowest setting. Use the brightness keys on your keyboard to adjust it.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if possible).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and power cord, and turn on the laptop.
BIOS Restore:
1) Shutdown the computer and keep the charger plugged
2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B button until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow on-screen instructions and click on OK
