Hi @mateuszkoz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Keyboard delay or lag during gaming on your HP Omen 16 can be frustrating. This issue can stem from various factors including software, hardware, or system settings. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve keyboard lag in games:

1. Update Drivers and Software

1.1. Update Keyboard Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Find Keyboard:
    • Expand the Keyboards section.
  3. Update Driver:
    • Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

1.2. Update Graphics Drivers

  1. Check for Updates:
    • Visit the HP support website or the website of your GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).
    • Download and install the latest graphics drivers for your GPU.

1.3. Update System BIOS and Firmware

  1. Visit HP Support:
    • Go to the HP Support website.
    • Search for your HP Omen 16 model and check for any BIOS or firmware updates.
    • Follow the instructions to download and install any updates.

2. Check System Performance

2.1. Monitor System Resources

  1. Open Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Check Resource Usage:
    • Look for high CPU, GPU, or RAM usage. Identify any processes that are using excessive resources.

2.2. Close Background Applications

  1. End Unnecessary Tasks:
    • In Task Manager, close any applications or processes that are not needed while gaming.

3. Adjust Game Settings

3.1. Lower In-Game Settings

  1. Reduce Graphics Settings:
    • Lower the graphics settings in your games, especially if they are set to high or ultra.
  2. Adjust Input Settings:
    • Check for any input lag settings or options in the game and adjust them.

3.2. Disable V-Sync

  1. Disable Vertical Sync:
    • V-Sync can sometimes cause input lag. Disable it in the game settings or through your graphics control panel.

4. Optimize System Settings

4.1. Power Settings

  1. Change Power Plan:
    • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    • Select High performance or create a custom power plan with performance settings.

4.2. Check Keyboard Settings

  1. Adjust Keyboard Repeat Rate:
    • Go to Control Panel > Ease of Access > Keyboard and adjust the Repeat delay and Repeat rate settings.

5. Check for External Factors

5.1. Test with Another Keyboard

  1. Connect a Different Keyboard:
    • If possible, test with another keyboard to see if the issue persists.

5.2. Test in Different Games

  1. Check Other Games:
    • Test keyboard performance in different games to determine if the issue is specific to certain titles.

6. Perform System Diagnostics

6.1. Run HP Diagnostics

  1. Run Built-In Diagnostics:
    • Use the HP Support Assistant or HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to run a full system check.

6.2. Perform a Clean Boot

  1. Boot into Clean State:
    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer and test for lag.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi mateuszkoz,

I had the same problem for some time, I experienced terrible input lag in games. I didn't have it before but 2-3 months ago I noticed it for the first time in Baldurs Gate 3, then in other games. I was furious because playing was almost impossible. I was trying a lot of things to fix the issue like. installing all up to date drivers for all of the stuff (chipset, gpu, keyboard, audio, touchpad and so on...), monitioring cpu ram usage (but it was fine), monitoring temperature (fine again), uninstalling games, making space on disc, updating BIOS, udpdating windows, chagning a lot of system settings suggested on this forum and other forums... nothing helped me. However I think I migh found a solution / workaround for this issue, you can try it for yourself.

Workaround / solution:

Few days ago I randomly stopped processes of Omen Gaming Hub and Omen Light Studio in task manager.

It solved problems for me. It looks like those apps caused the input lag. And yes, I have up to date version of those apps (currently  v1101.2408.5.0). I didnt try to delete them, simply when I experience the lag I just stop those apps from task manager and lag dissapears hope it helps you too.
