I noticed my laptop display started giving me trouble when it hibernates/sleeps, it wont wake up. the  screen would not recover from the hibernated/sleep state, but the power light will still be on, which means that the system is still running because if i connect to an external device it displays on the external device. i would have to switch the labtop  off manually and switch it on again before it displays which  might not be evident.

After reading several trouble shooting techniques from the hp forum, like the things to do to know if its a display problem or a system problem, hitting the F10 key immediately after powering the device on to hear the beep sound, and hitting the capslock key to see if it is responsive, i can draw to the conclussion that the system is fine, as i am actually using the same system with and external display unit....

i also read that it might be due to and old version of the BIOS, so i follow the exact steps from HP to download and update/flash the BIOS, but the display still did not come after all my attempts...

so in a nutshell:

i replaced the screen to no avail

i updated the BIOS to no avail

and i can only use the laptop with HDMI

i will very much like if you could help me out, considering you understood my problem as explain above, and please recommend what should be done to remedy the situation....  looking forward to your response

thanks

Hi! @Selebrity27, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand your laptop does not wake up when it goes to sleep or hibernate.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

Please try the steps recommended below.

In the search type CMD Launch, the elevated Command Prompt with administrator rights and enter the following command (there is no output)

powercfg /h off

and restart your machine.

Also, if the issue persists try the steps recommended below.

1. Click starts > settings > system

2. Left side menu click > Power and Sleep.

3. Scroll down click > Additional Power Settings.

4. Left menu. For each of these Click > 'Choose what the power buttons do' and Click > 'Choose what closing the lid does'. Make these changes [battery and plugged in]:

When I press the power button ~ Hibernate.

When I press the sleep button ~ Turn Off the Display.

When I close the Lid ~ Sleep.

Now return to 3 above > Additional Power Settings and continue:

5. Look for 'Plan shown on the battery meter' and a highlighted circle. Yours could be 'Automatic balances or balances[recommended]

6. Adjacent your choice click 'Change Plan Setting'

7. On next screen click 'Change advanced power settings'

8. A new menu appears. Move down and click > Power Button & Lid

9. Go down the menu and make these changes [battery and plugged in];

Lid close .... change to 'Sleep' for both options.

Power Button ... change to 'Hibernate' for both options

Sleep Button ... change to 'Turn Off the Display'.

Don't forget to OK before closing the process.

Let me know if this helps,

Have a great day! 🙂

Hello @

thanks very much for your directions and steps you sent me  for the surpose problem which i made mention earlier.

i have tried those step one after the other to no avail.

in command prompt, it gave a complain saying:

"C:\Users\R2B2>powercfg/h off
Unable to perform operation. An unexpected error (0x65b) has occurred: Function failed during execution."

and the other steps i follow but, nothing changed...

one thing which i should make have made clear is that, my computer does not display at start up, in fact there is no screen/display activity what so ever,

it only displays on and extenally sreen with use the HDMI cable.

when i power on the laptop, the power botton lights on and the caps luck key blinks when i hit it several times, but the laptop screen would not come on.

without and external display, there is nothing i can do with the laptop, despite the new screen i purchased

please help me out

thanks  and Regards

@Selebrity27, It's great to hear from you again.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the issue persists after trying out the steps.

Uninstall the graphics drivers from device manager on your PC and install the latest graphics driver using this link.

Also, Try creating a new user account on your PC and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists, try running HP support assistant on your PC and update the drivers to the latest version and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
