When i go to display setting, there is no option for auto brightness. Is it because the Spectre X2 doesn't come with a light sensor? If so, why are there a lot of talk about this feature when a lot of the laptops don't come with light sensors?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums @someguy111,
I understand that you are having a hard time getting auto brightness to work.
This Managing Power Options document provides information about working with Windows power plans. You can create your own plan according to the performance you need from your computer and then switch to that plan when desired.
Have you tried to Uninstall and Reinstall the Display Adapter? If not, please follow the steps below:
- Select Start,
- Type in Device Manager.
- Click On Device Manager,
- Right Click on the Display Adapter,
- Click on Uninstall,
- Restart the Notebook twice,
- Reinstall the Display Adapter.
You can reinstall the driver by running the HP Support Assistant instead. It will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating.
If that does not work, you could try the same steps, except instead of "Search automatically", please click on:
- Browse my computer for driver software,
- Click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer,
- Choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
- Click next.
I found a document for you called Display Is Dim or Difficult to Read. Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided in the documentation.
I hope this helps.
If you require further assistance, please re-post with the results of troubleshooting, the answer's to the question's above, and your Product Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?).
Have a great day!

Hey,
Thank you for getting back to me.
In the Manage Power Options document that I had provided, you will see the Changing a power plan section. I am including the steps for your convenience:
You can change specific settings in any of the power plans. To change power plan settings, complete the following steps:
In Windows, search for and open Power Options.
Click Change plan settings next to the plan that you want to change.
On the Change settings for the plan window, choose the display and sleep settings that you want to use.
To change more power settings, click Change advanced power settings.
On the Advanced settings tab, click the down arrow to select the power plan, and then expand the category that you want to customize, expand each setting that you want to change, and then choose the values that you want to use.
Try these steps please and let me know if that works for you.
Thanks 🙂

Hey,
Is it turned on in both sections?
It should be turned on in the Advanced Settings like I had posted previously, and it should be turned on in the display section (refer to screen shot below):
Souce: How to Adjust Your PC’s Screen Brightness
You’ll only see this option if your device has an ambient brightness sensor. Do you see this option?
Did you happen to disable to ambient brightness sensor in the BIOS by chance?
Are you using the High Performance plan?
Please let me know.
Thanks 🙂

Hey,
Thank you for getting back to me. The information that you had provided was very helpful. The only time you will see the options in the display settings or the BIOS is if your device has an ambient brightness sensor.
I hope that this has helped to answer your question. If so, please let others know which one of my replies was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button at the bottom of the post.
Take care 🙂
