Why does my laptop show some lines on the screen when waking up from sleep mode? I only see those lines when I move the mouse or touch the keyboard and wake up from sleep mode, the screen itself seems fine

Hi @Luis23- ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you're describing, with lines appearing on your HP 15.6-inch laptop screen after waking it up from sleep mode, could be caused by several factors, including:
1. Graphics Driver Issues:
The most common reason for graphical glitches, such as lines on the screen, is a problem with your graphics drivers. When the system wakes from sleep, it may encounter a conflict or bug in how the display is being rendered by the graphics card.
Solution:
- Update your graphics drivers to the latest version via the Device Manager or download the latest drivers from the HP website or your graphics card manufacturer's website (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA).
- If you're using a dedicated graphics card, ensure the drivers for both integrated and dedicated cards are updated.
2. Display or Hardware Issue:
There could be an issue with the laptop’s display cable or the screen itself. If the screen only glitches after waking up from sleep, it may point to a specific timing issue between the graphics processor and the display panel.
Solution:
- If your laptop is still under warranty, you might want to contact HP support to have the hardware checked or repaired.
- Check for loose connections or issues with the screen if you're comfortable opening the laptop, though it’s best to leave this to a professional if you're not experienced.
3. Power Management Settings:
Sometimes, the power management settings, particularly those related to sleep and display, can interfere with the system's ability to wake up cleanly, leading to glitches like this.
Solution:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and adjust your sleep settings. You can try disabling hybrid sleep or changing the sleep mode settings to see if that resolves the issue.
- Also, in the Device Manager, under Display Adapters, right-click your graphics device, choose Properties, and check under the Power Management tab to make sure that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
4. System Updates and BIOS Settings:
Occasionally, a BIOS update or an OS update can help resolve compatibility issues with how the laptop interacts with its display after waking up from sleep.
Solution:
- Check for the latest BIOS update for your laptop model on the HP support page and apply it.
- Make sure your operating system is fully up-to-date as well, as updates often contain fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
5. External Displays or Graphics Interference:
If you're using an external monitor or have multiple displays connected, the lines might be an issue with the external monitor or how the laptop is handling multiple display outputs.
Solution:
- Disconnect any external monitors and see if the problem persists.
- Adjust the settings in Display Settings to ensure the laptop is only using the internal screen after waking from sleep.
