My laptop started acting weird a couple of days back. First the AC light in the charging port was going on and off but fixed itself after restarting the computer, the next day a sparkling/electricity sound was coming from the computer when plugged in and started stuttering, now it charges really slow, went from 38% to 39% in 1 hour and stutters every 3 to 5 minutes, making it impossible for me to work with it.
I have run multiple times the system and component checks with no issues found. All my drivers are up to date. Reliability monitor shows SECOCL.exe failing sometimes but the dates don't match the stutters. Updated my Bios and confirmed my pc isn't overheating since the fans are working and CPU never gets more than 60°. The cables don't have any sings of damage. The power source works fine with other electronics like mi internet router or phone, still i changed it and the problem persist.
I have an active warranty but need to see if there's any other solution before sending it in for repair. Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @3Dald,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP Laptop PC 15-Dw3000 (1A3X9AV) is experiencing a sparkling or electrical sound when plugged in, along with stuttering and slow charging, it could indicate a hardware issue, possibly related to the power supply or internal components. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
Immediate Steps
- Unplug the Laptop: Immediately unplug the laptop to prevent any potential damage.
- Inspect the Power Adapter and Cable: Check for any visible damage, frayed wires, or loose connections.
- Test with Another Outlet: Plug the laptop into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the electrical socket.
Check for Hardware Issues
Battery Health:
- Go to HP Support Assistant and check the battery status.
- If you don't have HP Support Assistant, you can download it from the HP website.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run the battery and power diagnostics tests to identify any issues.
Check Power Settings
- Adjust Power Plan:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Ensure you are using a balanced or high-performance power plan.
Software Troubleshooting
Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS update for your model.
- Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure your system is fully updated.
Look for the next post for the remaining steps.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @3Dald,
Advanced Steps
Reset Power Management Settings:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type the following command and press Enter:
Reinstall Battery Drivers:
- Right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Batteries section.
- Right-click on Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.
Consider Hardware Repair
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem, such as a faulty battery, power adapter, or internal component. Given the symptoms,
it is advisable to contact HP Support for further assistance or consider taking the laptop to an authorized service center for a thorough inspection and repair.

Hi Elohi_NR,
I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
I’ve had some busy days and couldn’t answer before, but after reading your suggestions, I followed the steps. Unfortunately, they didn’t solve the problem. Only when I turned off the laptop and left it connected I was able to fully charge the battery. After that, the sparkling sound became lower, disappearing from time to time and as long as I keep the battery percentage above 50%/40% I don't experience any stutters.
Since the problem appears to be the battery i will contact HP Support to seek a solution. Thank you
