HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

after my touch screen laptop is powered up and warmed up, my mouse pointer keeps appearing in one area of my touchscreen ( right side upper area )...and it flickers, when this happens, my mouse pointer will not move, navigate or function unless i touch the spot where it is flickering, hold it there and then move my mouse,,,barely. Once this symptom begins, it is impossible to move or navigate my mouse, or use the touchpad.  The screen goes bonkers, opening up tabs, apps, goes anywhere and everywhere, multiple tabs, apps and functions selected and opened by my haywire mouse cursor. I believe that one section of my touch screen is damaged. Has anyone else had this similar experience? I am running on windows 11 ( upgrade)-however, it did this same thing when i had windows 10. Should i replace the display, and how much would that cost? ( 15.6" g

Hi @Mike77sunset,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

  • Have you tried disabling the touchscreen functionality in Device Manager to see if the issue persists without it?
  • Does the issue occur only after the laptop warms up, or does it happen immediately upon powering it on?
  • Have you noticed any visible damage, discoloration, or cracks on the touchscreen in the affected area?

Check the Mouse options under control panel:

Start → Control Panel → Mouse → Buttons tab.
Check the box labeled "Use MS Office compatible scroll only."
Also, check the box below labeled "Scroll in active window only."

Attempt using an alternate/external mouse.

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:

Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.

  • 1.   Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.
  • 2.   Click Device Manager.
  • 3.   Click + sign next to Mouse.
  • 4.   Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".
  • 5.   Restart your computer.

Hey ELOHI!!))))))))))))))) Thank you thank you thank you!!! You just helped me to save a fabulous HP laptop- with an   64 bit system updated to windows 11, with backlit keyboard, 16 GB of ram, a light-speed Intel  processor. I was actually getting ready to part this thing out! It seems to me that i recall using the Device Mgr. 'human-interfaced devices" and then the sub-menu to disable the touch screen. I thought it best to merely DISABLE, rather than uninstall the touch screen display. If you think otherwise, that i should completely can the touch screen ( uninstall ) then please let me know. What a great community this is for us lame"techys" who don't know a Chicken Fart from an Egg.  This powerful HP laptop ( 2017) is running wonderfully!  Problem solved, and I will be sure to mark it. again, THANK YOU! You have always been a great and cordial helper and friend. IN fact, everybody i have dealt with concerning HP have been so kind and professional.  That is why i will purchase only HP PC's and Laptops. They are by far, the most dependable bang for your buck. One gets alot of PC at affordable pricing, especially now. I am retired here in Phoenix, but if your character is exempleary of all HP employees and other operatives, I want to work for HP! I will have to do a bit of updating my studies and read manuals. In fact, in the past i did alot of precision work for HP- in Portland, OR. back in the early 1980"s, die cutting and sending precision designs to Hp...OKAY...sorry, i violated T.O.S. a tad-bit, as i got WAY WAY off-topic! You don't need to hear my Bio, just my gratitude. This forum is awesome, and i will spread the word. Also...Hey you HP exec's in the upper-eschelons....give a huge commendation to ELOHI... if...You don't...i will know/ hear about it, and i will be deeply offended...( i'm serious ).. Thanks for reading, and for being a huge help!   greatfully yours, Michael.
