multiple external displays

i am trying to set up 2 external monitors for this laptop so that it can act as the cpu and have the two monitors extend 

i have tried an HDMI Splitter   only duplicates the laptop screen   

i have tried one hdmi and one usb c in hopes of having two   the system wont detect the second external monitor.  

I want the laptop screen to project on one screen and have the second be the extension for multitasking.

What is your HP 14-dk1000 Laptop PC (8VZ00AV) machine ? It could be one of the following machines

Your machine should have same ports of the above machine. It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

• Charge your machine,
• Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

     Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,

     Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                    USB to HDMI Adapter
