Hi @anny44ev,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I Understand that your concern, don’t worry I will help you with this .
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- What happens when you open the Camera app?
- Black screen?
- Error message (for example: 0xA00F4244 – No camera detected)?
- Does the camera appear in Device Manager?
- Under Cameras or Imaging devices?
- Or is it missing / showing an error icon?
- Did this start after a Windows update or BIOS update?
- What is the exact HP laptop model and Windows version?
- Do apps like Zoom or Teams detect the camera at all?
Troubleshooting steps to try
1. Check camera privacy settings (very common cause)
- Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera
- Make sure:
- Camera access is ON
- Let apps access your camera is ON
- The Camera app is allowed
2. Look for a physical camera shutter or key
Some HP laptops have:
- A physical privacy shutter above the camera, or
- A keyboard key (Fn + camera icon) that disables the camera
Make sure it’s not turned off.
3. Check Device Manager carefully
- Open Device Manager
- Expand:
- Cameras
- Imaging devices
- Human Interface Devices
- If you see the camera:
- Right-click → Enable device
- Or Uninstall device, then restart
If you don’t see the camera at all, that’s an important clue.
4. Install the HP-specific camera driver
Generic Windows drivers sometimes don’t work properly:
- Open HP Support Assistant
- Install all available updates, especially:
- Camera
- Chipset
- BIOS (if recommended)
5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart the laptop
- Press Esc, then F2
- Run Component Tests → Camera
If the test fails or the camera isn’t detected, it may be a hardware issue.
6. Reset the Camera app
- Settings → Apps → Installed apps
- Camera → Advanced options
- Click Repair, then Reset
I hope this helps.

I tried all of these things. There is no camera on my computer now but there was in the past . I tried loading a camera from hp site but it didn’t load..Rebooted laptop, had a Microsoft geek go in my computer to get it to work twice to no avail. He said it is a problem for HP. Don’t know what to do. Will use an external webcam, I guess
