Hi @Alkana ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 is experiencing a display issue that affects both the boot screen and certain high-resolution activities, like gaming.
Here are a few steps you can try to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Update Graphics Drivers
Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can update them through the Device Manager or by downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA or AMD).
Steps:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click on your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
Alternatively, visit the NVIDIA or AMD website, search for your graphics card model, and download the latest driver.
2. Adjust Screen Resolution
Sometimes, mismatched resolutions can cause display issues. Ensure that your screen resolution is set correctly.
Steps:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Under Display resolution, make sure it is set to the recommended resolution (1920x1080 for your laptop).
- If it's already set to the recommended resolution, try lowering it temporarily and then switching it back.
3. Check Display Settings in BIOS
Incorrect display settings in BIOS can also cause such issues.
Steps:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 or Esc during startup).
- Look for display settings and ensure they are set to default or optimized settings.
- Save changes and exit.
4. Test with an External Monitor
Connect your laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the laptop’s screen or the graphics card.
Steps:
- Connect an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort.
- Duplicate or extend your display to the external monitor.
- Check if the same issue occurs on the external monitor.
5. Reset Display Settings
Sometimes, resetting the display settings to their default values can resolve issues.
Steps:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
- Click on Display adapter properties for Display 1.
- Go to the Monitor tab and click on Properties.
- Click on the Driver tab and then click on Roll Back Driver if available. If not, click on Uninstall Device and restart your laptop.
6. Check for Hardware Issues HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware issue with the display or the graphics card.
Steps:
- Run a hardware diagnostic test. HP laptops usually come with built-in diagnostics accessible by pressing F2 during startup.
- If the diagnostic test detects a problem, note the error code and contact HP support for further assistance.
