Hi @Gus208,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already replaced the screen on your HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cp0000 and it's still blank, despite lighting up, and external monitors work fine, this suggests the issue could be related to internal hardware or settings. Here's a list of things to try:
1. Check the Display Output Mode
Since the external monitor works but the laptop screen is blank, it could be that the display output is set to external-only mode.
- Press Windows Key + P and select Duplicate or Extend to ensure that the laptop display is active.
2. Verify Ribbon Cable Connection
Since you've replaced the screen, it's possible that the LCD ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard wasn't properly secured or is damaged.
- Carefully open the laptop (if comfortable) and check that the display cable is properly seated.
- If the connection seems loose or damaged, reseat the cable or replace it if necessary.
3. Check BIOS Settings
Sometimes the issue is related to the BIOS settings.
- Reboot the laptop and press F10 to enter the BIOS.
- In BIOS, check if the laptop screen works. If the screen works in the BIOS, the issue may be related to Windows or the drivers.
- If the screen doesn't work in BIOS, it points to a hardware problem.
4. Reset BIOS to Default
If the screen doesn’t show in the BIOS, try resetting the BIOS to default settings:
- In BIOS, press F9 to load the default settings.
- Save and exit by pressing F10.
5. Check Display Drivers (Safe Mode)
- Since you updated the drivers, there may still be conflicts. Try booting into Safe Mode (Press Shift + Restart, then navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings).
- In Safe Mode, reinstall or roll back the display driver via Device Manager.
6. Perform a Hard Reset
Try resetting your laptop's hardware connections.
- Turn off your laptop and disconnect all external devices.
- Unplug the power cord, then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect everything and power on.
7. Consider the Display Cable
If the issue persists, it might be a faulty display cable inside the laptop, even though the screen is new. Replacing the display cable may resolve this.
8. Graphics Card/Hardware Issue HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
If none of the above steps work, there could be a deeper issue with the graphics card or motherboard.
