Hi @fb-10000
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for trying all those steps already — I understand how frustrating it is when the touchpad remains unresponsive despite your efforts. Let’s walk through a few advanced checks to help revive the I2C HID touchpad driver on your HP laptop running Windows.
Here’s a focused approach to help you move forward:
1. Check Device Manager for Hidden or Faulty I2C HID Device
- Press Windows + X → select Device Manager
- Expand Human Interface Devices
- Look for I2C HID Device or HID-compliant touchpad
- If it’s missing:
- Click View > Show hidden devices
- If it appears grayed out, right-click and choose Uninstall device
- Restart your laptop to allow Windows to reinstall it
2. Disable Power Management for I2C HID
Sometimes Windows disables the device to save power:
- In Device Manager, right-click I2C HID Device
- Go to Properties > Power Management
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
- Click OK and restart
3. Run HP Diagnostics
Use HP’s built-in diagnostics to test the touchpad hardware:
- Visit the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows
- Download and install the tool
- Launch it and run Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test
4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Outdated firmware can block I2C communication:
- Go to HP Software & Driver Downloads
- Enter your laptop’s full model number (e.g., Victus 15 FB2777AX)
- Download and install the latest BIOS and Chipset drivers
- Restart after installation
5. Use HP App to Check Touchpad Settings
- Open the HP App from Start menu
- Navigate to Device Settings > Input
- Check if touchpad is listed and enabled
- If not visible, this may confirm a hardware-level issue
6. Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
- Run the Keyboard and Hardware and Devices troubleshooters
If none of these steps restore functionality, the issue may be hardware-related, especially if the I2C controller isn’t initializing. You’ve done an excellent job trying all software-level fixes.
If you’d like help interpreting the HP diagnostics results or navigating BIOS menus, I’m here to guide you through it.
