Product: HP Pavilion p7-1423w Desktop PC

I received a new monitor and have a old desktop with a display port hookup. i bot 2 different cable with no success.

do i need a video card?

Hi:

 

HP has retired support for that PC since it is more than 10 years old.

 

I could not find any product specs on the PC other than this old Wal-Mart ad, which indicates the PC has a VGA and DVI output.

I don't see any reference to a display port.

 

If your monitor has a HDMI or display port input, you should be able to buy a DVI to HDMI cable...

Or a DVI to display port cable:
