If I connect my HP OmniBook to an external Verbatim PMT-14 monitor via an USB-C Cable I receive NO SIGNAL.
If I connect an HDMI-USB-C Apple adapter to my USB-C on laptop and HDMI to my external monitor the video signal is transferred, but I don't have the power for the external monitor, so I have to power the external monitor in a different way.
If I connect the external monitor on my previous 3-years old HP EliteBook via a simple USB-C cable is working perfectly (video and power).
Why with my new OmniBook (bought few days ago, last generation, 2'000 fr!) I have this limitation?
Is a cable issue? Have I to buy a specific new cable? I don't want to buy a bulky docking station (not more portable)... or are there other external portable monitor working correctly with a simole USB-C cable?
Many thanks

Hi @AndyDema
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining the situation so clearly—it’s understandably frustrating when a newer, high-end device like your HP OmniBook doesn’t deliver the seamless USB-C display and power experience you expected, especially when your older EliteBook handled it effortlessly.
Let’s break this down and explore what’s likely happening:
Why your HP OmniBook isn’t delivering video + power over USB-C
1. Not all USB-C ports support DisplayPort Alt Mode + Power Delivery
Some USB-C ports are data-only or support charging but not video output. Others support video but not power delivery. It’s possible your OmniBook’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode only through adapters (like your HDMI-USB-C Apple adapter), but not native USB-C video + power passthrough.
2. Your Verbatim PMT-14 monitor likely expects full USB-C DP + PD
This monitor is designed to receive both video and power over a single USB-C cable. If the OmniBook’s USB-C port doesn’t support USB-C PD output or native DP Alt Mode, the monitor will show “No Signal” and won’t power on.
3. Your EliteBook likely had a Thunderbolt or full-featured USB-C port
Many EliteBooks include Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB-C ports with full DP Alt Mode and 15W+ power output. That’s why it worked with a single cable.
What you can do (without a bulky dock)
Option 1: Try a certified USB-C cable rated for video + power
- Use a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3/4 cable that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery (PD)
- Avoid charging-only or USB 2.0 cables—they won’t carry video
Option 2: Use a dual USB-C cable (if supported by monitor)
- Some portable monitors include a second USB-C port for power
- Connect one USB-C cable from the OmniBook to the monitor (for video)
- Use a second USB-C cable from a power adapter to the monitor’s power input
Option 3: Use a compact USB-C hub with passthrough power
- Look for a slim USB-C hub with HDMI output and USB-C PD passthrough
- Connect the hub to your OmniBook
- Plug HDMI to the monitor and USB-C power to the hub
- This avoids bulky docks while restoring full functionality
If you’d like, I can help you identify a compatible cable or hub based on your OmniBook’s exact model number.
You’re absolutely right to expect a clean, portable solution—and we’ll get you there without compromising your setup.
