It sounds like your HP Pavilion Laptop isn't detecting your external monitor through USB-C, HDMI, or USB ports. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check the Monitor & Cable:

  • Make sure the external monitor is powered on.
  • Try using a different HDMI/USB-C cable.
  • Test the monitor with another device to confirm it's working.

Verify the Connection Type:

  • If you're using a USB-C to HDMI adapter, ensure it's a compatible video-supported adapter.
  • If your USB-C port does not support video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode), you may need a USB-C docking station that provides video output.

Detect the Monitor Manually:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings > Multiple displays > Click Detect.

Check Display Output Mode:

  • Press Windows + P and select Extend, Duplicate, or Second screen only based on your preference.

Update/Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager)
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click your GPU (Intel or NVIDIA) > Select Update driver
  • If updating doesn't work, try Uninstall device > Restart your laptop

Check Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Let me know if this works!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the reply!  It was a big help.  I ended up reinstalling a more general graphics driver and that seemed to work.  I'm typing this response on the extended screen so that's a plus!

Thank you again!
