SOLVED, CHECK YOUR MOTHERBOARD SN IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM and cross reference with the board list from hp. or take the back panel off. A gpu chip has its own heat sink on the MOBO.
Long story short, I dont have a graphics card in my laptop. Costco sold this lapotop as having a 740m in it with a sticker when it did not have anything. I paid for something I did not get. And i wasted like 5 hours trying to troublehoot it.
Lesson learned:
1: Check system specs to see if you have what you bought.
2: Double check serial number to see if board is not labeled right.
3: Buy a new cheap computer instead of trying to repair a 6 year old one if something expensive breaks.
after installing windows 10
my Nvidia GeForce GT 740M stopped being detected by windows.
I have this computer:
My laptop is said to have nvidia graphic card. But i cannot find it in device manager. I tried installing nvidia graphic driver given in hp driver website for my laptop. But it says "not compatible nvidia hardware is not found". Even though i downloaded it from hp driver website it is not working. Is there a way to get it installed.
now im running on integrated graphics. its no fun. the pc is pretty old - from 2014
i heard that win 10 doesnt work well with some old hardware, but i saw that theres a workaround somewhere online. ill post the link when i find it.
does anyone know the solution? or do i have to do hours of trial and error to find a fix?
Just did this and forgot to check the box. so i might have screwed everything up.
- i am trying this now:
"First you need to install:
Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver
Then:
NVIDIA Graphics Driver
Both are downloadable from hp support web site.

from
https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/gpu-not-listed-in-bios-or-device-manager.2660860/
attempted fixes:
using hp auto update tool
using nvidia auto update tool
using intel then nvidia graphics update tools
video card is enabled.
nvidia card is not detected
