Hi @angpao
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing those details—it’s genuinely frustrating to see your CPU spike to 95°C so quickly, especially during games that aren’t graphically intense.
Let’s bring some cool control back to your HP Gaming Pavilion 15-cx0083tx and help that i7-8750H breathe easier.
Step-by-Step: Reduce CPU Overheating on HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop
1. Clean the Air Vents and Fans
- Power off your laptop and unplug it.
- Use a can of compressed air to gently blow out dust from the rear and side vents.
- Focus on the exhaust vents near the hinge and intake vents underneath.
Dust buildup restricts airflow and traps heat—clearing it can make a noticeable difference.
2. Elevate the Laptop for Better Airflow
- Use a cooling pad or place the laptop on a hard, flat surface.
- Avoid soft surfaces like beds or cushions that block ventilation.
Even a slight elevation improves airflow and helps the internal fans do their job.
3. Adjust Power and Thermal Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Balanced or create a Custom Plan.
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Under Processor power management, set:
- Maximum processor state to 90–95%
- Minimum processor state to 5%
This reduces CPU turbo boost spikes that cause sudden heat surges.
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
- Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP Pavilion 15-cx0083tx Drivers - Download and install:
- Latest BIOS update
- Chipset driver
- Thermal framework driver (if listed)
These updates can improve thermal management and fan control.
5. Use HP Command Center (or Omen Gaming Hub if installed)
- Open the app and switch to Performance or Comfort mode.
- If available, enable CoolSense or Thermal Control features.
These modes balance performance and temperature dynamically.
6. Limit Background Processes
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End unnecessary background tasks that consume CPU.
- Disable startup apps under the Startup tab.
Would you like help checking if your BIOS version F.29 is the latest for your model? I can verify that for you and guide you through the update if needed.
