pen is not working. when I connect it to the USB-C port of the laptop, the charging light on the pen does not even come on. However, I can connect an external ssd drive to the same laptop port and read the drive just fine. I connected the pen to a wall charger through a USB A to USB-C cable, and still the charging light on the pen does not come on. Used the HP Support Assistant to download and install updates. No change in pen function. Is there a battery I can replace? Is this a hardware issue confined to the pen?

Hi @kmanning
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like your HP pen stylus (M23867-001) might be experiencing a hardware issue, especially since the charging light doesn't come on even when connected to different power sources.
Here's how you can troubleshoot and determine the next steps:
Inspect the USB-C Port on the Pen:
- Check for any visible damage or debris in the USB-C port of the pen. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean it gently.
Test with a Different Cable and Charger:
- Try using another USB-C cable and charger to rule out issues with the accessories.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure your laptop and pen are running the latest firmware. While you've already updated via HP Support Assistant, you can double-check for any specific updates related to the pen on the HP Support page.
Battery Replacement:
- Unfortunately, most HP styluses, including the M23867-001, have built-in, non-replaceable batteries. If the battery has failed, the pen might need to be replaced.
Test the Pen on Another Device:
- If possible, connect the pen to another compatible HP device to see if it charges or functions. This can help confirm if the issue is with the pen itself.
