I keep getting pop up windows supposedly from HP, saying I have a bad problem  that is slowing down my computer and I need to click to fix the problem. Did the fix , but the pop up keeps coming back. Sounds like a scam to me. What do you think,

      Thanks Larry

@larrydougan, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding pop-up windows!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how concerning these pop-ups can be, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Based on your description, these pop-ups may not be legitimate HP notifications but rather potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) or adware designed to mimic official messages. HP does not send alerts urging users to "click to fix" performance issues.

Here’s what I recommend to resolve this issue:

Uninstall Suspicious Programs:

  • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Look for any unknown or suspicious programs that were recently installed.
  • If you find anything unusual, right-click and Uninstall it.

Scan for Malware and Adware:

  • Run Windows Security:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
    • Click Quick scan (or Full scan for a deeper check).
  • Use HP Support Assistant

I hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
