Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For the last 18 months I have used my laptop through my lcd tv with no problems.   Recently I have changed my tv unit and for a day tried putting the laptop under the shelf but this involved not opening the lid fully.  I am coming to the conclusion that this may have overheated the laptop as since then I am having problems extending the desktop to the tv.  I find after the laptop has been switched off and then on again the nest day I now have to delete the drivers for both display adaptors and let them re install with a restart.  Before this I tried updating them but this did not work.  After doing as I said i can then get it to work using f4 to bring up the menu to either use the laptop as display, both tv and laptop or just the tv which is what I normally do.

@Maturecheese It does look like the overheating may have caused hardware malfunction if it had been working fine earlier and isn't anymore, that said, here's what I suggest you do:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.
