HP Pavilion - 15-cs3087tx
Microsoft Windows 11

I see there are a lot of issues that HP seem to have with flickering screens.  This is my first HP, laptop other makes in the past I never had these issues.

I have been onto service support, and they say possible hardware, this might be the case, but it does not make sense to me based on my below observations.  I have Pavilion model 15-CS3XXX, and use windows 11. I also via HDMI look at the Samsung TV rather than the smaller laptop screen.

1. when on the windows 11 desktop I can move the mouse around and does not flicker, but if I drag the mouse over the search field on task bar the laptop screen Shuts down.

2. I can be in an email move the mouse it does not flicker but hover the mouse over an input field and it flickers.

3. If in an excel file with a few tabs, when moving the mouse around the file it will either flicker or go black, but move the mouse down to where the extra tabs are shown and it does not flicker.

4. After i was told by HP, hold my finger down on the power button for 40 seconds then it works perfectly until, I restart Laptop then it's back to flickering.

I am no computer expert but to me if is hardware it would flicker no matter what screen or field I was dragging the mouse over.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Regards

Fredorchid

PS was told by HP customer support this laptop is compatible for windows 11, but when I go to the HP assist that I download it says there are no window11 drivers.  What to HP call compatible?

Hi @Fredorchid,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

This looks like a hardware issue. However, let's try a few steps to isolate the issue.

Common screen problems you may encounter include the inability to adjust brightness, a screen that is blurry, flashing, blinking, or fuzzy, an unresponsive touchscreen, or a black-and-white or blank screen. The automated tools below can help you fix these computer and laptop display and touchscreen issues.

Click here for hardware diagnostics. Keep me posted on the results.

Note: If this unit is not compatible with Windows 11, you may not find the drivers.

We recommend continuing with Windows 10 and see if that makes any difference.

Hi Elohi-NR

thank you for your reply.

i do appreciate your comments where you say “stay with windows10”, but this was based on the premise if my HP Pavilion laptop is not compatible with windows 11.

I am amazed almost stunned that no body at HP knows if my model and serial number is windows 11 compatible, in fact during either many of the telephone calls or emails I have been told it is, yet I note when I was directed to the driver page it states there are no window 11 drivers for this model.  Even when I raised this point with the people I was communicating with there was still no definite question as to if my model is windows11 compatible.

i have just finished with tier3 Microsoft support (and may I say it was a fantastic experience) and through their dedicated assistance I now have sound back, the issue of a flickering or going black laptop screen I will learn to live with as I have the laptop hooked to a Samsung TV via HDMI cable so I can shut the laptop lid and everything seems okay.

I have been told by numerous HP Service support that it’s a hardware issue and who am I to say no but when on the windows11 desktop if does not flicker until the mouses curser mover over the search field on the task bar then the laptop screen goes black, even in email in the body it does not flicker until you get to an input field.  When I start the laptop and keep tapping on escape I get to a screen where you can check a few things Mayuri got me to do that the other day, then when you escape and get into windows the laptop screen works perfectly until you shut it down and reboot after about 40 minutes then the flickering starts again.  Also as requested to try this I held the power button down for 40 seconds then when in windows it works perfectly until once again you shut the laptop down and restart then the flickering restarts again.  So to me I do question if it is a hardware issue why do these two actions fix the hardware issue until you shutdown the laptop and restart after a while to me it’s software probably driver issue that connects the laptop to windows 11

Let me say the below it may sound critical of HP so take it as you may.

If HP were to be honest and state from day 1 that my model I not compatible with window 11and the only resolution would be to roll back to windows 10, then matter resolved and there is no need to blame hardware or try numerous things to get it going as it’s not compatible  In saying this my model after upgrading for many months was working on windows 11, but recently after many upgrades came through from HP, this is when the sound and display had issues.

moving forward

I will live with the poor performance of the HP laptop with flashing screen, the screen going black and ever time I shut the lid I loose the display settings.

I do need to know though how I stop HP from sending any upgrades drivers etc, my system is working via the Samsung TV and I do not want HP,s updates to cause issues that are now resolved.

Hi @Fredorchid ,

We apologize for the inconvenience, but it seems that the issue persists even after attempting the troubleshooting steps mentioned above.

Unfortunately, there are no further actions we can take through this channel. I recommend reaching out to our phone support for further assistance.

This might require one-on-one interaction to fix the issue via remote assistance.
