Hey there! @AbuRyan,

Were you able to use the fingerprint reader before?

Was there any recent windows update on the PC?

Try updating the windows to the latest version and check if it helps.

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Hardware and Devices. I would suggest you run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Devices.
Refer to these steps:
1. Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
2. Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
3. Run the Hardware and Devices.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Press Win+R keys-> Type services.msc and hit the enter key.

Right click on windows biometric service select properties click stop and select start.

Also, in the startup type make sure automatic is selected from the drop-down.

Click on apply and click ok, now check if the fingerprint reader is functioning.

Lastly, try running a fingerprint reader test under component test from the system diagnostics page and check if the hardware is functioning correctly.

@AbuRyan,

Thanks for the update.

Did you try running a fingerprint reader test from the system diagnostics page?

Also, please try the steps recommended below.

Check if you're able to setup the Windows Hello.

* Click Start

* Select Settings and navigate to Accounts /> Sing-In options /> Windows Hello

* Check whether you're able to make changes to the setting and setup Windows Hello.

If not, Use the System File Checker tool and DISM to repair missing or corrupted system files:

Click Start.

Type cmd, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to open elevated command prompt(I.e. Command prompt with admin rights).

If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

Type or copy paste the below command lines into it without quotes:

Reboot the system and check if problem resolved.

“Sfc /scannow”

"dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth"

Let me know if this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Hi! @AbuRyan,

I'm sorry but again you didn't reply to my question in the previous post.

Did you try running a fingerprint reader test from the system diagnostics page?

I'll watch your response!

@AbuRyan,

Thanks for replying back.

Fingerprint reader test does not fix the issue, it will tell you whether the Biometrics hardware is functioning correctly or not.

Also, if the hardware is faulty a clean installation will not fix the problem.

So first try running a fingerprint reader test and check if the test passes without any failure ID.

If the test passes without any failure ID. Please perform a clean installation of the OS.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Hi! @AbuRyan,

Thanks for the update and I understand your concern.

So try the steps at your leisure and if the test fails it is a hardware issue with the PC.
