@pigeio, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the screen getting blank!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Let’s try to get to the bottom of this and find a fix!

Based on what you’ve described, it sounds like there could be a couple of things happening:

Hinge/Connection Issue: Since it takes more effort to open the laptop and the screen goes blank when you lift it, the issue might be with the internal display cable getting loose or pinched. This can happen over time with wear and tear.

Power or Battery-Related Issue: The unexpected shutdowns and restarts could be due to a failing battery, power supply issue, or even a short circuit inside the laptop.

Software/Driver Glitch: If the screen is sometimes blank on startup but works after a restart, there might be a display driver issue or a system glitch.

Steps to Try:

🔹 Check for Loose Connections – If comfortable, gently open and close the lid while observing if the screen flickers. If so, the display cable could be loose.
🔹 Run an HP Diagnostics Test – Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly → Select F2 → Run a System Test to check for hardware issues.
🔹 Update Display & BIOS Drivers – Go to HP Support Assistant or the HP website, download the latest drivers, and update them.
🔹 Test on Battery vs. Charger – Try running the laptop only on battery and then only on the charger. If the issue happens in one mode but not the other, that could point to a power-related issue.

Let me know how it goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
