Hey there! @bar88, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have touchscreen issues with your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Is the touchscreen working in BIOS?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned you need touchscreen drivers for your PC.

Try the steps recommended below.

Go into Device Manager - Select Universal Serial Bus Controllers - Select Generic USB Hub Properties -( Under POWER tab: the one that  has "HID-compliant Device 100mA" attached) Power Management - UNCHECK-"Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"

If you have problems or not sure if it the correct HID-compliant Device, just look under the Driver Details and hit the drop down box to scroll through all those different labels until it clearly says "Touchscreen" under "Bus Reported Device Description"

1) Go to Device Manager (Windows Key+X, select it)
2) Under the "Mice and other pointing devices" list find "USB Touchscreen controller", or the driver that's not your mouse/touchpad.
3) Right click to select "Properties", click the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll back".
4) After confirming, this will remove the driver from that list but bring up a bunch of new ones under "Human Interface Devices", where the touchscreen stuff logically should live.
5) Make sure that all the other drivers are updated EXCEPT "USB input device". This is the one that moves it all to the mouse drivers.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Perform a touch screen diagnostic test.

a.1: Plug the AC Adapter into the computer.

a.2: Press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds.

a.3: Turn on the computer and press the F2 key repeatedly.

a.4: When the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI screen displays, click Component Tests.

      a.5: Click Touchscreen.

a.6 There are two interactive touchscreen tests. Start by clicking Touch Pointer Test.

a.6 Read the on-screen instructions, and click Run Once.

a.7:  Touch each block to erase them the test ends when all blocks are erased or after three minutes have passed and results are displayed.

a.8 Click the main menu to return to the UEFI Screen and click the second test.

a.9:  Click Component Tests, and then click Touchscreen again.

a.10 Click Drag and Drop Test.

a.11: Read the on-screen instructions, then click Run Once again.

a.12: Drag and drop the blocks according to the screen. The test ends after all the blocks are repositioned, or after three minutes have passed.

Also, Try updating the graphics driver and BIOS on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

After updating what was recommeneded touch screen and wireless mouse still not working ,seems after reading here I am not the only one having this problem? I would not recomend following the HP advisor when it tells you to uninstall hid compiant touch screen driver as it dose not reinstall when doing a restart as it says ,maybe  HP should look into this .I am not sure if this is a windows problem or a HP problem but if I do not have the driver I can not update it  or roll it back, any other thoughts seems like lots of people are looking for the solution to this problem . Thanks

@bar88

You're welcome.

As @A4Apollo is out of the office today, I'm replying to you today. I truly appreciate your efforts and your patience. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

Please download and install a touchscreen firmware update via this link. The laptop should be restarted after the firmware update.

In case the issues still persist then a system recovery (reinstalling Windows) is recommended. Also, try using another mouse (wired USB mouse if available). And if the touchscreen and the wireless mouse do not work after a system recovery (as suggested in the previous post) then it is a good idea to contact our HP phone support to explore the available service options.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Good luck! 🙂

You're welcome.

You may attempt to uninstall the update. The following steps will help:

  • Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
  • Click on Installed Updates on the left
  • Select windows update (KB4074588) and click uninstall
  • After uninstalling the update reboot the PC

If the touchpad and the eternal mouse do not work and due to this if you're unable to uninstall it then the following steps can be attempted:

  • Shutdown/turn off the laptop.
  • Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose and option screen is displayed, and then continue.
  • On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.

  • Select command prompt.
  • You may be asked to enter a BitLocker Recovery Key or username/password.  If prompted for a username/password, you must enter a local administrator account.

  • In the Command Prompt window, type the command listed below for your version of Windows and press ENTER.

    For 32-bit versions of Windows:

    dism.exe /image:c:\ /remove-package/packagename:Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~16299.248.1.17

    For 64-bit versions of Windows:

Note: If Windows is not stored on the C: drive, replace the C: in the above commands with the appropriate drive letter.

Close the Command Prompt and click Continue to exit the Recovery Environment. Restart to enter Windows.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to let me know. Good luck! 🙂
