Hi @karenreese
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for flagging that—when a touchscreen suddenly stops responding, it can feel like a big chunk of your laptop’s magic just vanished. Let’s bring it back to life with a few steps that usually do the trick:
🧪 Step 1: Check Device Manager
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen.
- If it’s listed but disabled, right-click and choose Enable.
- If it’s missing, click View > Show hidden devices.
If it still doesn’t appear, we’ll try reinstalling the driver next.
🔄 Step 2: Reinstall Touchscreen Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen (if available) and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop—Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
🧼 Step 3: Run a Touchscreen Diagnostic
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
- Press F2 to launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Choose Component Tests > Input > Touchscreen and run the test.
This will help confirm if the issue is hardware-related.
🔧 Step 4: Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
- Visit the support page for your laptop.
- Enter your model number and download the latest BIOS, chipset, and input drivers.
- Install and restart your laptop.
🧠 Step 5: Calibrate the Touchscreen
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Tablet PC Settings.
- Click Calibrate under the Display tab.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If none of these steps help, there might be a deeper issue with the digitizer or internal connections—but let’s stay hopeful. Let me know what you find along the way, and I’ll be right here to help with the next move!
