The touchpad on my HP Laptop 15-dy1043dx stopped working and I discovered HP doesn't have a driver I can download because I'm running Windows 11 instead of 10.  So now what, do I have any options? Or is this just another bit of planned obsolescence to force a new purchase after just 6 years of use?

Windows 10/11 drivers are same. Download and install windows 10 touchpad driver of your laptop on windows 11 and it will work.

If issue remains then try below suggestions one by one:

1. Press and hold the Fn key (bottom left) while pressing the F-key with a touchpad icon—typically F5, F6, or F9 on HP models (check your keyboard for the icon with or without an X).

This toggles the touchpad on/off instantly; repeat if needed. Varies by model, so test F3-F12 if unsure. On many HP laptops, the keyboard features clear icons next to function keys for easy touchpad control.

2. Press Win+I > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > toggle off, wait 5 seconds, then on. (There should also be setting which says disable touchpad when mouse is connected or similar, Uncheck that)

3.  You might have disabled your touchpad on accident, in which case you will need to check to make sure and if needed, enable the HP touchpad again. The most common solution will be to double tap the top left corner of your touchpad. Tap exactly on the small square/LED in top-left corner (not the whole pad).

Thank you for that detailed response, it was all helpful.  I tried all of your suggestions and none of it worked.  I kept getting replies that all of my drivers are "up to date" when clearly they didn't seem to be.  I thought I'd try one more thing before going to Best Buy for help, and that was searching for what HID complaint device actually meant in order to figure out which device was actually the problem, cuz how the hell would I know?  That brought me to something called PC Detective that directed me to do a msdt.exe. -id DeviceDiagnostic and go to "hidden devices" and troubleshoot the issue.  For future reference, that did the trick.  Good lord what a pain this all was.
