@stephenpeepels, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

1. Check Windows Updates and HP Support Assistant

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Open HP Support Assistant > check for updates > install all firmware, BIOS, and input device drivers.

Restart the laptop.

2. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

Press Windows + X > open Device Manager.

Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices.

Look for Synaptics, ELAN, or Precision Touchpad entries.

Right-click each > choose Uninstall device.

Check the box: "Delete the driver software for this device" if prompted.

Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall a generic or HP-specific driver.

3. Turn Off Touchpad Power Saving

Press Windows + X → choose Device Manager.

Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

For each USB Root Hub, right-click → Properties → Power Management tab.

Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Do this for Intel HID, I2C Controllers, and any Precision HID-compliant devices.

4. Reset BIOS Settings (Especially After Updates)

Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

Press F9 to Load Defaults, then F10 to Save and Exit.

5. Test in HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

Restart the laptop and press Esc, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

Select Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test.

Follow the instructions. If the touchpad fails here, it's hardware-related.

I hope this helps.
