The specs of your machine is

             https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06620364

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor USB Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

For more connectivity, please use

                         True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.

No, depending on your selected option, you only need Adapter or Dock not both.

I am not finding anything on amazon in the usa that claims to be "display link certified"

They seem to run in cost, between, $14 and $50 usd.

Is there a difference?

Would this one work?

StarTech.com USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter - 1080p (1920x1200) - Slim/Compact USB Type-A to HDMI Display Adapter Converter for Monitor - External Video & Graphics Card - Black - Windows Only (USB32HDES) https://a.co/d/8cX2eCF

BH, thank you again for your help.

so i ordered the startech USB adapter and installed it. i got all three monitors to work.

i noticed right away my work slowed down and my mouse would occasionally freeze or speed around on the screen by itself.

i called startech support (very helpful and someone actually answers the phone), after verifying my model they said my processor was too slow for their recomendation. so now have the adapter and an extra monitor i ordered. i feel stuck.

i think i need to upgrade my laptop at this point. i can not seem to get a straight answer on a laptop from HP that would allow to run two external extended montiors?

can someone suggest one? i dont care to use the adapter, i would rather not.

anyone??
