pavillion dv6-6c63sl
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi All,

Many days ago the hard disk of my dv6 pavillion died so i changed it with an ssd drive.

Also I lost all recovery partitions so I had to reinstall the o.s. using a genuine microsoft windows 7 64-bit.

I downloaded all drivers from the hp support site , but when I tried to install the video adapter driver the os doesn't boot and hangs at the windows 7 logo. I tried to install both catalyst ati driver downloaded from ati web site and the hp driver (sp55092.exe and sp55098 ). the installation process ends correctly but hangs after the first reboot. I don't really know if it is an hardware ( failure of video adapter) issue or a driver issue

Here some details of my configuration

dv6-6c63sl

from the device manager i got the hw id of video adapter:

I can see two distinct video adapter devices

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&SUBSYS_185D103C&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&SUBSYS_185D103C
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&CC_0300

the second one:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&SUBSYS_185D103C&REV_09
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&SUBSYS_185D103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116&CC_0300

Someone could advice me about the correct video adapter to install ?

Any Help will be appreciate

Regards

Adriano

@ilputto,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues booting after installing the video driver for your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you download and install HP support assistant from the below link and it will automatically download and install all the drivers required for your computer.

https://www8.hp.com/in/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_in/en/any/psg/p...

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello community , @the_fossette

I want to explain how I fixed the issue. My laptop have two built in Graphics cards a Intel(R) HD Graphics Family and the  Radeon (TM) HD 7470M. When I tried to install the driver downloaded from the Hp website Windows hanged at startup or got the blue screen and then rebooted:

 How to fix

assumption : sp55092 already installed.

reboot in safe mode, then disable the ati driver and reboot in normal mode.

when windows 7 starts run windows update. You’ll should find a specific update for the intel graphics card. Download it and install! Reboot. When windows starts the graphics card should be correctly up&running.

then enable the ati driver!

Conclusion:

the drivers provided  by hp support site  ( the sp55092- related to intel graphics card) seems

be not compatible with windows  and should be updated by  hp.

to fix it you need to Install a windows patch  by windows update.

Regards and and happy  2019
