I am taking IT classes and in a lab I have been asked to right click...how does that translate to an action on my touchpad?

IF your touchpad has buttons right below it, press the right button.
If there are no buttons, then go into Settings --> Devices. On the Touchpad tab, in the Results pane, click the box next to "press the lower right corner". Then, you press the lower-right-corner of the Touchpad.
